SCIO TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A single-car crash in Washtenaw County killed a Dexter woman.

Michigan State Police (MSP) said troopers from the Brighton Post were dispatched to I-94 near Jackson Avenue, in Scio Township, on Saturday, May 24, around 5:15 a.m. They had received a crash notification from Ford Motor Company.

On their way to the crash site, troopers noticed a semi-truck and SUV on the right shoulder.

The drivers of those vehicles told troopers they struck an unknown object and damaged their vehicles. The semi-truck driver said she thought she spotted headlights in the woods.

Investigators said troopers and firefighters went "deep into the woods" and found a crashed 2021 Ford Expedition. The vehicle was occupied by a single driver.

She was identified as a 47-year-old Dexter woman, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not released.

MSP said their preliminary investigation revealed the woman was traveling westbound on I-94, "drifted off the road, drove into the woods and struck a tree." Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Investigators believe the semi-truck and SUV struck the wheel assembly of the crashed Expedition.

The investigation remains ongoing. If you have any information, please call the MSP Brighton Post at (810) 277-1051.
