BRUCE TWP. (WWJ) -- An Imlay City man is jailed on expected charges after police alleged he drove drunk, causing a deadly crash in Northern Macomb County Monday night.
At 8:45 p.m. on April 8, Michigan State Police responded to the scene of a reported serious crash involving a dirt bike rider along Brown Rd., south of Reed Rd. in Bruce Township.
According to MSP investigators, a 55-year-old man driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck was headed southbound on Brown when he used the northbound lane to pass another vehicle.
While still in the northbound lane, the pickup smashed head-on into a dirt bike driven by a 53-year-old Romeo man.
The Romeo man was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries, MSP said.
According to police, an investigation found that the pickup driver — who was not injured in the crash — was driving while impaired.
He was taken to jail to await expected OWI charges.
“Another family is mourning the loss of a loved one due to a preventable traffic crash.” said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. “There are too many options available to get behind the wheel impaired. Please do not drink and drive.”
