DETROIT (WWJ) -- The city of Detroit is about to “get lit” this weekend, as DLectricity comes to the Detroit Cultural Center and Beacon Park.
The nighttime arts and cultural event focuses on light projection and technology, featuring more than 40 installations by artists from across the globe, as well as Detroit-based artists.
The event will run from 7 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday, taking place in large, public spaces in Beacon Park and the Cultural Center, which includes the likes of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Public Library, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Michigan Science Center and others.
In addition to the installations, there will be a Light Bike Parade from 8-9 p.m., beginning near the Traffic Jam & Snug along Canfield Street.
DLectricity is free to the public, and getting around the event will be easier with the QLine. Detroit’s streetcar service along Woodward -- which is free to all customers through the end of the year -- will run Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight, before returning to regular service on Monday, Sept. 27.
A full schedule of events and map of installations can be found on the DLectricity website, as well as more information on all 42 installations. Works range from a 40-foot illuminated inflatable called “Man,” to illuminated “Balloon Heads.”

Sue Mosey of Midtown Detroit Incorporated tells WWJ there will be fun for all ages at DLectricity.
“This is definitely family-friendly. There are lots of activities for kids to enjoy, (including) interactive light exploration,” Mosey said.
She says there will be food trucks, beverage tents and lots of “eye-popping” light displays for kids to enjoy.
