DETROIT (WWJ) -- With COVID-19 cases recently on the rise, visitor restrictions are going back into effect at some local hospitals.

The Detroit Medical Center, including DMC Harper University Hospital, DMC Heart Hospital, DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital, DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, and DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital will now allow one “support person” per day.

The person must be 12 or older, and visiting hours will be limited from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Patients and visitors will also have to answer a series of screening questions, have their temperature taken, and are required to wear a face mask before entering any DMC hospital.

Additionally, visitors will not be allowed for hospitalized patients who test positive for COVID-19, or those who have symptoms of the virus.

The updated visitor policies come as the highly infectious Delta variant of the coronavirus has been causing a surge in cases, especially among the unvaccinated.

Currently, Michigan is averaging just over 906 cases per day, with 913,220 cases confirmed in the state from Saturday through Monday.
