(WWJ) Reservations for DNR campgrounds are now open for the 2026 Memorial Day weekend.

The agency maintains a rolling six-month reservation system, meaning those making spring camping plans will be able to reserve their site over the next couple months.

DNR campgrounds cover the entire state, from the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula to the border of Ohio. Accommodations include tent sites, connections for RVs and cabins.

Jason Fleming, Resource Protection and Promotion Chief with the DNR’s Parks and Recreation Department said some of the more popular campgrounds and weekends do fill quickly, but it’s usually not necessary to reserve six-months in advance.

Fleming recommends checking the site multiple times if the site someone wants isn’t available. He said sometimes larger groups will have several people adding sites to their cart before making a decision. Sites that are taken may open up closer to the requested dates because a person’s plans change.

For those unfamiliar with camping, he said the most important thing is having “camping courtesy.” Avoiding cutting across other sites, maintaining a clean site and keeping dogs leashed are all part of being a good camping neighbor. There are a list of rules and regulations that a person must read through while making their reservation.

Along with site reservations, the DNR’s campground website includes information on any construction projects or other closures of campgrounds, pricing for each and amenities.
