Dog shot by police after it attacked police officer during arrest at Detroit home

DETROIT (WWJ) - A dog was seized by animal control on Friday after it bit a Detroit police officer during an arrest on the city's east side.

Detroit Police Cpl. Dan Donakowski confirmed the incident to WWJ which occurred in the 5900 Block of Lakewood Street. Donakowski said officers were at a home in the area on a domestic destruction of property run.

Police were attempting to take a person at the residence into custody when a dog, described as a pit bull-type, bit one of the officers.

The officer's partner intervened and shot the dog.

The officer that was bit was taken to a local hospital for medical care, Donakowski confirmed, while the injured dog was removed by animal control.
