WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - A Metro Detroit animal welfare organization is asking for financial support for a puppy fighting for his life after being found with gruesome injuries on the side of road.
Meet Lil Funyun; a little puppy that was discovered discard with trash on a side street in Detroit with horrific injuries and broken bones in a case that animal rescuers are calling 'heartbreaking.'
"While we commonly rescue dogs at the worst times in their lives, this one has us screaming for answers," animal welfare group Bark Nation said on their Facebook page. "How? How can you leave a puppy, screaming in pain, to suffer alone? How did your heart not shatter into a million pieces? How did this even happen?"
Bark Nation said on their social media that they were contacted by Detroit Animal Care and Control officers after the puppy was found huddling in a chip box.

The puppy is said to have been transferred to Oakland Veterinary Referral Services for medical care for his injuries which include broken bones.
Donations are being sought by Bark Nation to help cover the cost of Lil Fungun's veterinary care; the welfare group said doctors have not given the puppy's prognosis, but they remain optimistic.
"The only thing we do know at this point is that are so thrilled and honored to be a part of his best days," Bark Nation said. "....You’re safe. You’re loved. And your fight is over. We’ll take it from here, brave boy. Your support would mean the world to us, and most importantly, to this brave little bug."
An investigation into the animal abuse is ongoing and further details were not released.
Bark Nation is an non-profit organization in Ferndale that focus on shelter intervention, shelter enrichment and anti-cruelty initiatives.
Donations for Lil' Funyun are being accepted on Bark Nation's social media through Facebook Pay.
