DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are trying to piece together what led to a fatal shooting early Wednesday morning near a school on Detroit's northeast side.
Detroit police told WWJ that officers responded to the 20000 block of Joann Avenue, near 8 Mile Road and Schoenherr Street, shortly before 8 a.m. after getting a ShotSpotter alert in the area.
While authorities say they never received a 9-1-1 call, they responded within two minutes and found a man shot to death.
Though the investigation is still in the early stages, police have not yet identified a suspect.
Police officials said there were multiple bullet holes in the nearby school, Trix Academy, which was not in session at the time of the shooting.
A possible motive in the case remains unclear.
Barbara, a resident in the area, told WWJ's Ryan Marshall she heard people yelling “we got him” after the shots rang out.
