
PARADISE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Traverse City woman accused of driving under the influence caused a head-on collision that injured two people, including herself, authorities said on Thursday.
Troopers with the state police first responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash just after 1:30 p.m. on April 7 near Garfield Rd. and Mayfield Rd. in Paradise Township.
Authorities learned from an inital investigation that a 39-year-old female from Traverse City was driving northbound on Garfield Road when her vehicle crossed over the centerline and went into oncoming traffic.
The driver of one vehicle traveling southbound on Garfield Road was able to serve out of the way and into a ditch, narrowly avoiding the wrong-way driver.
A second vehicle also traveling southbound on Garfield Road was not so lucky and was struck by the Traverse City woman's vehicle head on.
Police responding to the crash said alcohol was a factor and the woman who crossed over into oncoming traffic was almost five times over the legal limit.
She was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The occupants of the vehicle that was struck, a 60-year-old male from Grand Rapids and a 23-year-old man from Grandville, were also taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries; they were released the same day.
