MSP hands out 77 tickets in I-696 speeding crackdown; one driver clocked going 101 mph

(WWJ) – Dozens of drivers in Metro Detroit are looking at tickets after Michigan State Police cracked down on speeding along I-696 Tuesday.

MSP carried out a four-hour speed enforcement detail along I-696 between I-75 and I-275, resulting in numerous tickets and arrests.

MSP officials say the operation resulted in 77 traffic stops, 77 citations, 25 verbal warnings, six misdemeanor arrests and one vehicle towed.

One driver was clocked going 101 mph, while other top speeds included 99, 94 and 91 mph.

Officials said one driver was cited for reckless driving when they passed on a shoulder in a construction zone, driving with a suspended license and no insurance.
