(WWJ) Law enforcement is reminding the public to stop for school buses, after they say a child nearly got hit by a car.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, this happened just after an elementary school student stepped of a Bedford Public Schools bus, Wednesday afternoon.
The bus had its flashing red lights activated and its stop arm extended, when the student began to cross Douglas Road in front of the bus.
The driver of a Chevy Malibu coming the other way allegedly failed to stop for the bus.
The sheriff's office said the 19-year-old Toledo man didn't slow down and came within inches of hitting the student.
FLOCK cameras in both Bedford Township and the city of Toledo assisted with confirming the vehicle information and that the vehicle was in the area around the time of the incident, officials said.
With this incident in mind, Sheriff Troy Goodnough said he wants remind all drivers that they should be prepared to stop when they seethe overhead flashing yellow lights of a school bus, and must stop at least 20 feet away from a school.
