SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Troopers are working to figure out what led to an Oakland County freeway shooting after a driver reported his vehicle had been struck by gunfire on Monday evening.
Michigan State Police said they were made aware of the incident after a male driver called 911 around 7:15 p.m. on July 24 and said he had been shot at while traveling northbound on I-75 near M-15 in Springfield Township.
The man said he heard a loud noise while on the freeway and believed his car had been hit by something. When he was able to look over his vehicle, he found a bullet hole in his door frame with a bullet still lodged inside.
The driver also informed troopers that he saw an older model maroon or red car in the left lane beside him when he heard the loud noise.
He described the car as having a black plastic bag or garbage bag over the rear passenger window.
Troopers were dispatched to the area and closed the freeway as they canvassed the area for evidence. MSP said no shell casings were discovered.
State police are continuing to investigate the incident and have not ruled out the possibility the bullet was fired from a property along the freeway.
No other details about the incident were released.
