DETROIT (WWJ) -- While attempting to flee police on a Detroit freeway Monday morning, a man's car stalled and struck the embankment, leading to his arrest.
At 1 a.m. on Mar. 20, Michigan State Police reported that their troopers were patrolling when they noticed a Dodge Durango trying to avoid them.
According to the officers, the Dodge sped off and got on westbound I-94.
The cops switched on their lights and followed the driver until the Durango ran out of gas and stalled, causing the driver to lose control and crash along the embankment at the Cadieux Rd exit.
After running the Dodge up the embankment, the suspect -- identified as a 23-year-old Detroit man -- attempted to flee on foot.
MSP said that state troopers gave chase and attempted to use their Taser on the driver, but he was not hit.
As he tried to elude capture, the suspect fell and officers caught up to him. Following a brief struggle -- during which MSP claimed the man resisted arrest as police tried to gain control of his arms -- the driver was arrested.
Further investigation showed that the Dodge Durango was stolen and had the wrong license plate. Additionally, the suspect was on probation for fleeing and eluding police a previous time.
The driver is currently in MSP custody.
