
(WWJ) A wrong-way driver caused a deadly crash that shut down a stretch of I-94 early Friday morning, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were dispatched to westbound I-94 and County Line Rd. at around 2:30 a.m. on April 18 on reports of a speeding Dodge Charger that was going the wrong way on the freeway.
While deputies were responding to the area, the Charger crash head-on into another car near Church Rd.
Investigators said the driver of the Charger, a 28-year-old man from Harper Woods, died on the scene.
A 32-year-old Flint man who was in the other car was taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition, according to the sheriff's office.
The westbound freeway was closed at the scene for the investigation, but has since reopened to traffic.
The name of the man who died was not immediately released.
An investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Team is ongoing.
