(WWJ) Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly crash that left a local freeway closed for several hours overnight.
The crash happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday, along eastbound I-96 near Warren Ave. in Detroit.
According to officials with the MSP Second District, a 34-year-old man driving a Hyundai hit a semi truck he was merging onto the highway from I-94.
The Hyundai smashed into the concrete wall, and was left disabled, partially blocking the left lane.
MSP said another driver stopped to help, pulling two kids — ages 4 and 8 — from the car. While that was happening, the driver of a Dodge Ram crashed into the Hyundai, with the driver still inside.
Upon impact from that crash, the Hyundai spun around and smashed into the car of the driver who'd stopped to help.
The Hyundai driver was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released, but police said his family was notified.
There were no other injuries.
The investigating is ongoing.
