DETROIT (WWJ) -- One person is dead after a rollover crash on a freeway ramp, Monday afternoon in Detroit.

According to Michigan State Police, calls came in about the crash at around 2:10 p.m., on the northbound I-75 ramp to Shaefer Hwy.

A preliminary investigation found that a driver of a passenger vehicle was headed north on I-75 and took the Shaefer exit "going too fast for the curve."

Police said the driver lost control, going off into the grassy area on the left shoulder and then continuing up the ramp from Schaefer to northbound I-75. That's where the vehicle hit the metal guard rail and rolled over, landing on its roof, police said,

The driver, who has not not been yet been identified, was pronounced dead on the scene. Police did not immediately provide any details about the person.

Both ramps were closed for the investigation, but have since reopened.

“We continue to see excessive speed lead to traffic crashes,” said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, in a statement. “Troopers are currently investigating this crash and are working to identify the driver. It has been determined that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.”
