STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that left the driver dead and the passenger injured, early Friday morning in Sterling Heights.
Officers and EMS responded at around 4:20 a.m. on October 16 to the scene along Hall Road, east of Delco Blvd. and Van Dyke Ave.
The driver, a 41-year-old Sterling Heights man, was found unresponsive on the ground.
An injured passenger, a 27-year-old Sterling Heights woman, was also on scene and has been cooperating with police.
Police said the initial investigation found that a 2018 Nissan Rogue was headed eastbound on Hall Rd., passing Delco, when it entered the grassy median, hit a tree, and overturned several times.
Both occupants were able to get out of the car, before the man lost consciousness, police said.
Both were taken to a nearby hospital where the man was pronounced dead. His name was not released.
The woman remained hospitalized Friday afternoon, but police said her injuries were not life-threatening.
Police said investigators do not believe any other vehicles were involved.
As for what led to the crash, police said drunken driving is as suspected factor.
Eastbound Hall Rd. was closed for the on-scene investigation, but has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing.
