BLACKMAN TWP. (WWJ) — A school bus driver and three special needs students were injured in a crash involving a semi-truck Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday just north of Jackson, according to Michigan State Police.

Investigators say a bus from the Jackson County Intermediate School District, which was carrying 11 special needs students, hydroplaned on the wet road and lost control as it was trying to merge from US-127 onto westbound I-94.

The bus hit a semi-truck and rolled over. The truck slammed into the median wall, MSP officials said.

The bus driver and three students were injured and taken to the hospital. Their conditions were not disclosed. The driver of the semi, an adult attendant on the bus and eight other students were not injured.

The Michigan State Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division will be inspecting both vehicles on Thursday, officials said.

It appears that the wet roadway and speed were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
