DETROIT (WWJ) -- Fans were startled when the Green Day concert came to an abrupt stop in downtown Detroit Wednesday night, after someone flew a drone over the venue.

About ten minutes after their concert started, the band was in the middle of the song at Comerica Park when the music suddenly stopped, and band members ran off stage.

After the band was whisked away on a golf cart, a message popped up on screens stating that the show was on pause, and to stand by for details.

"I'd never seen a band book it off stage like that," said WWJ Digital Managing Editor Marisa Jenkins, who was in the stands. "It was a tense few minutes...We didn't know what was going on, if we were about to be evacuated, or if the show would continue."

According to Detroit Police, when a person flew an unauthorized drone into Comerica Park, the decision was quickly made to take the band off stage. DPD said its officers located the person outside of the ballpark and detained him.

He is being detained pending further investigation, police said,

The concert resumed after about 10 minutes.

"There ain't no [expletive] that's gonna stop us, I'll tell you that" shouted lead guitarist and vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong, as Green Day returned to the stage, picking up where they left off.

Armstrong later told the audience that this will be a memory we'll share together.

Green Day wrote in a 10 p.m. post to X: "Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue. DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding."

It's unclear at this time what the drone flyer's intentions were, or what charges he might face.

About 35,000 fans were at the concert.
