TROY (WWJ) -- A Detroit man is facing a drunken driving charge after police say they caught him speeding while driving on the freeway in Oakland County last week.
The 28-year-old driver was pulled over in a 2019 GMC Terrain SUV at around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 3, along northbound I-75 at Rochester Road in Troy.
According to the Troy Police Department, which released details about the traffic stop on Thursday, the driver was clocked going 102 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone.
When officers spoke with the driver, they said the noticed that "his eyes were red and glassy, his speech was slow, and there was an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle."
Police said the driver told the officers that he hadn't been drinking, but admitted smoking marijuana about an hour before he got behind the wheel.
After police said the man agreed to try a series of field sobriety tests, but performed poorly, he tested at a .100% blood alcohol concentration (BAC) on a preliminary breath test.
He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up Facility where he tested at .108% and .106% on a Chemical Breath Test.
The driver was issued a citation for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). His name was not released.
