TROY (WWJ) -- Troy Police are releasing details about an drunken driving arrest earlier this month, that began with a call about a suspicious vehicle.

Just before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, officers responded to the area of Coolidge Highway and Golfview Dr. on a report about a driver parked in the northbound left lane of Coolidge Highway.

The vehicle was facing southbound on the northbound side, the caller said, with the lights turned off, and was not moving.

Officers arrived to find the car as described, with the driver — later identified as a 38-year-old Troy man — slumped over the steering wheel.

Officers were able to wake the man up by knocking on the window, police said, and when they spoke with him they noticed he was slurring his words and smelled strongly like he'd been drinking.

After the man performed poorly on a series of sobriety tests, according to police, he blew a .148% BAC on a breathalyzer. The legal limit to drive in Michigan is .08%.

The driver was then arrested and taken to the Troy Police lockup, where a Chemical Breath Test showed results of .159% and .153% BAC, police said.

The man was issued a citation for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). His name was not released.
