TROY (WWJ) – An Oakland County woman is awaiting possible charges for drunk driving after allegedly hitting a road sign and a box truck on I-75 last week.
Troy police were called around 2 p.m. last Wednesday to the area of southbound I-75 near Adams road after a witness reported seeing a GMC Yukon hit a road sign.
The caller said the suspected drunk driver "continued to be all over the road" after hitting the sign.
Just as officers located the Yukon, the driver rear-ended a work truck that was merging onto the freeway, according to Troy police.
When officers spoke with the drivers involved in the crash, both said they were uninjured. But as they spoke with the driver of the 1996 Yukon – a 50-year-old woman from Davisburg – they noticed she had slurred speech and her eyes were bloodshot and watery.
She had denied having anything to drink before driving, but she failed multiple field sobriety tests and blew a .248 BAC on a preliminary breath test.
The woman was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-up Facility, where she refused to take a breath test. Medical personnel drew her blood after authorities got a search warrant.
The case has been turned over to the Troy Police Department's Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned. Authorities have not released the woman's name.
