(WWJ) - An intoxicated driver veered off the road and jumped a highway bridge before crashing his car on the other side, authorities in western Michigan said on Thursday.
The jump is being described by witnesses as a feat reminiscent of the car stunts from "The Dukes of Hazzard."
The Michigan State Police confirmed to MLive that a Kalamazoo man, 25, was driving south through Allegan County on U.S. 131, around 2:05 p.m, when his vehicle veered off the road.
Authorities said the man's black Chevrolet Impala sped up the embankment and launched over the freeway bridge at 142nd Avenue, before hitting a road sign and crashing on the other side.
The man was said to have minor injuries, but troopers responding on-scene suspected he was intoxicated; the driver was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Witnesses passing the crash on the freeway could see tire tracks leading up the embankment and the crashed car on the other side.
Jessica Sinclair and her mother were driving by the scene when she filmed this video.
“Someone fully “Dukes of Hazard” jumped their car up and over the 142nd bridge,” Sinclair said in a Facebook post.
Authorities said they will be looking to charge the man with driving while intoxicated.
