DETROIT (WWJ) - Troopers are asking for any witnesses to come forward after a road rage incident involving a Dodge Durango led to shots fired on I-94 during the evening commute on Friday.
Michigan State Police said a driver called 911 around 5 p.m. on Dec. 1, stating they believed their car had been shot by another driver while on I-94, just east of the I-96 freeway.
Troopers were dispatched to the area where they met with the caller at Lonyo and I-94.
The caller told troopers that they had been in a road rage incident with the driver of a white Dodge Durango. The called stated they were in the right lane when the Durango drive exited onto I-96 and allegedly stuck a pistol out of the driver's side window and fired off one round.
The bullet did not strike the caller's vehicle and there were no reported on injuries stemming from the incident, MSP said.
The caller was unable to get the license plate number of the Durango.
Troopers conducted an evidence sweep of the area where they recovered a single casing.
“It is ridiculous how many drivers are getting into arguments over driving," MSP 1st Lt. Mike Shaw stated in an update on X. "To make it worse those that are driving around with guns are making it dangerous for all of us. If someone gets mad, just go about your business. Engaging people just isn’t safe.”
An investigation into the case remains ongoing; no other details were released. Troopers are asking for any witnesses who saw the exchange come forward and contact MSP at (734) 287-5000.
