DETROIT (WWJ) An Easter morning fire on Detroit's east side left a man and a woman dead, the Detroit Fire Department (DFD) said.
DFD said the fire broke out around 5:35 a.m. on Sunday, April 5, at a home on Ashley-- in the area of Kerby and Mack, near the Grosse Pointe Farms border.
According to fire authorities, the crew arrived at the home five minutes and 10 seconds after receiving the initial 911 call. Fire burst from the side of the house and a car in the driveway.
Crews entered the home to search for occupants. They found a woman suffering from severe burns. They removed her from the home and to an ambulance, where first responders "made every attempt to revive her, but sadly she passed away," DFD said in a press release.
She was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital.
Crews also found a man in the house, who had died.
The names and ages of the victims were not released, only that they were "adults."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
"Despite challenging conditions inside the home, making it tough for crews to get to the residents, they did a great job," DFD said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased."
