DETROIT (WWJ) – Spring is officially here, which means it's almost time for Flower Day at Detroit's Eastern Market.

The annual tradition is making a long-awaited return after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first full-scale Flower Day since 2019 is set for Sunday, May 15 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with vendors from all over the Midwest as Metro Detroiters delve into the spring and summer months.

The announcement of Flower Day's return comes as Eastern Market recently received major national recognition, being named as one of the country's best public markets.

Eastern Market was named to USA Today's list of the 10 best public markets in the U.S.

The market came in at No. 3, behind only Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market and the famous Pike Place Market in Seattle.

Eastern Market was recognized for its more than 250 independent merchants and vendors selling everything from fresh produce and flowers to antiques and home goods.

The market is open year-round on Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The hours expand from June through September, with market days on Tuesday (9 a.m.-3 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m.-4 p.m.).

More information on hours, vendors and events can be found on the Eastern Market website.
