EASTPOINTE (WWJ) An Eastpointe woman has been charged and arraigned for the fatal shooting of her husband.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office charged Claretta Johnson, 42, with Second Degree Murder (a life felony) and Felony Firearm (a 2-year felony). She was arraigned in Eastpointe District Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutors allege Johnson shot her husband in the back of his head following an argument on Tuesday (12/27) at their home on Veronica, in the area of Gratiot and 8 Mile. It's unknown what they were arguing about.

Johnson is being held at the Macomb County Jail on a $1 million bond, cash/surety only. She is not allowed to have any contact with the children who were in the home at the time of the murder.

According to the Macomb Daily, two of her children that were present are minors and two are adults. Their exact ages were not released.

“Gun violence is not the answer to an argument,” Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said in a press release.

Johnson is due back in court on Tuesday, January 10 for a probable cause hearing, and one week later, for a preliminary exam.

If convicted, she faces up to life behind bars.
