Elderly couple murdered in Howell home, 22-year-old in custody

(WWJ) Michigan State Police are investigating the suspected double murder of an elderly couple near Howell.

State Police said they were called to a home in Oceola Township in Livingston County around 7:15 a.m. Friday in response to a 911 call for an active threat complaint. When they arrived at the home on Maple Leaf Lane; they found a 22-year-old man still on the phone with 911. The young man said he had phoned in the complaint.

Troopers searched the house and found the homeowners, a married couple, deceased. The victims were identified as Dale Dormanen, 75, and Joan Dormanen, 79.

The 22-year-old man also lives at the home. He was taken into custody. At this time; police have not released details on how (or if) he’s related to or knows the victims. He has not been named as an official suspect.

A motive for the crime is also unknown. State Police said their forensic crime lab is on the scene. There is no active threat to the community, according to State Police.
