GROVELAND TWP., Mich. (WWJ) – An elderly man in northern Oakland County is behind bars after allegedly shooting his wife to death.

Michigan State Police say a 79-year-old man called them shortly after noon on Wednesday and told them he had shot his 70-year-old wife.

MSP said on Twitter early Wednesday afternoon they were investigating a "domestic felonious assault" at a home in the 2600 block of Groveland Road in Groveland Township.

An hour later, MSP said troopers entered the home and found the 70-year-old woman dead from gunshot wounds.

The couple were apparently having an argument that escalated to violence. Police did not say what sparked the argument.

Police have not released the names of the suspect or the victim, but said the man was taken into custody without incident.
