SANILAC TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- An elderly woman is dead after being run over by her own car in Sanilac County on Wednesday.
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office says they received a 911 call shortly before 4:30 p.m. reporting a one-vehicle crash with a subject lying in the street on Pebble Lane in the Huron Shores Trailer Park in Sanilac Township.
When deputies, fire rescue and EMS crews showed up to the scene they discovered a 94-year-old woman from Sanilac Township had been badly injured.
Authorities say the woman was driving a 2004 Buick Century and was in the process of backing up as she attempted to park her vehicle. Police say she opened her door to see where the curb was. That’s when she hit the accelerator, struck a parked car and fell out of the Buick, which then ran her over.
The vehicle came to rest after striking a nearby mobile home.
Medics took the woman to McKenzie Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
