SOUTHGATE (WWJ) -- A Wyandotte resident was taken to a hospital after getting hit by a car while riding an electric scooter in Southgate Monday evening.

Reports say the person who was hit was a minor child, although police are not confirming that detail at this time.

The crash happened at around 6:10 p.m. on Sept. 29, on southbound Fort Street at Eureka Rd.

According to Southgate Police, the driver involved had a green light at the intersection, headed southbound on Fort Street, when the scooter rider — headed eastbound on Eureka — crossed all lanes of traffic in the crosswalk and was hit.

The scooter rider was found unconscious in the street in critical condition, police said, and was rushed to a local hospital.

The driver, identified as a Maybee woman, remained on the scene and is cooperating with police.

Police said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor.

The investigation is ongoing with help from the Downriver Crash Reconstruction Team.

No further details were released about the scooter rider, and police said in a news release Tuesday that their current condition is unknown.
