(WWJ) A new poll gives insight into how voters are feeling about the U.S. Senate race in Michigan, just over two months before the November general election.
The poll by EPIC-MRA has Democratic nominee Dr. Abdul El-Sayed with an edge over Republican Mike Rogers, leading 47% to 43%
Rogers, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump, leads among older voters. He held a 52% to 36% edge among voters age 50 to 64, with 13% undecided, and a lead of 48%-45% among voters over 65, with 7% undecided.
Dr El-Sayed showed strength among younger voters, leading Rogers among 18- to 34-year-olds 62%-31%, with 7% undecided. Among 35- to 49-year-olds, El-Sayed led 48%-38% with 14% undecided.
As for the issues, the poll also revealed that 62% of people polled support Medicare for All, which El-Sayed has made the basis of his campaign.
However, the poll showed El-Sayed's Muslim faith may be an issue for many some voters, with 37% saying they are less likely to support a candidate who is Muslim.
The poll, for which 600 likely Michigan voters were surveyed between Aug. 22-28, has a margin of error or plus or minus 4 percentage points.
