(WWJ) A former Waterford Township teacher has pleaded guilty to criminal charges for having sex with a teenager she was tutoring.
Jocelynn Sanroman, 27, of Pontiac, pleaded guilty as charged to three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.
Back in 2023, Sanroman worked at Oakside Scholars Charter School in Waterford Township, according to authorities.
The investigation began after Sanroman confessed to another teacher that she was having sex with a 16-year-old former student she was tutoring, and the colleague alerted school officials and law enforcement.
“Jocelynn Sanroman was entrusted to educate and protect children,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, in a statement. “Instead, she violated that trust to sexually exploit a teenager. This resolution holds Sanroman fully accountable for her crimes and protects future students.”
Because third-degree criminal sexual conduct is classified as a Tier III offense, Sanroman will be required to remain on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry for the rest of her life.
Her sentencing is set for April 28. She could face up to 15 years in prison.
