FERNDALE (WWJ) -- Several police cars are parked outside University High School in Ferndale on Tuesday following the shooting death of a student over the holiday weekend.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reports police are providing extra security at the school, on Bermuda St. near Woodward Ave., where 14-year-old Darrian Davis attended.
Police said Davis was shot and killed late Saturday night near the grounds of the Michigan State Fair, at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.
A friend of Davis, also 14, was shot and wounded, police said. He remained hospitalized as of Tuesday morning, last reported to be in stable condition.
Novi Police said the two boys had taken an Uber from Detroit to Farmington Hills, and a second Uber to the fair in Novi with some friends. The shooting, which happened in a parking lot west of the fair venue, apparently stemmed from an ongoing argument, police said.
In light of this incident, officials announced they would make changes to the State Fair — including improving security measures and changing the closing time.
Langton said, along with the police, there are grief councilors at the school this week to help students, faculty and staff who are dealing with this tragedy.
Meanwhile, there have been no arrests in the case.
Langton said Novi Police are continuing to investigate and search for the shooter.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Novi Police Department at 248-348-7100.
