Fatal crash involving semi, flatbed truck, 2 other vehicles forces total closure of Schafer Hwy in Dearborn

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Authorities in Dearborn have closed all lanes of Schaefer Highway after a major crash between several vehicles, a truck and a semi proved fatal on Friday afternoon.

Officials with the City of Dearborn said both northbound and southbound lanes between Butler and Mellon are inaccessible until further notice as law enforcement investigate the scene of the deadly incident.

The closure was reported just before 12:30 p.m.

In aerial photos captured by Fox2, a jackknifed semi can be seen up against a red flatbed truck. The hood of the semi appears to have been ripped off in the crash and lying on the ground nearby.

At least two passengers vehicles were also captured facing away from one another with their front ends smashed in.

Debris from the crash appears littered across the highway.

Officials did not provide a timeframe for how long the closure will be in effect, but drivers should seek alternative routes and stay away from the area.

At this time, it remains unclear if there is one fatality or more. Details about possible injuries were not released by authorities.
