REDFORD (WWJ) - Redford Union High School’s secondary campus will be closed Friday following a deadly attack between two custodial workers the night before.
According to the Redford Township Police Department, officers were called out to the high school at 17711 Kinloch Street, near Curtis Road, on Thursday evening after a janitor brutally assaulted his coworker.
When police arrived at the school, they found a victim with serious injuries from the alleged assault. The injured staffer was rushed to a local hospital where he died.
At the scene, officers arrested the victim's coworker, a 42-year-old Detroit resident, without incident.
Officials for Redford Union High School information students and parents of the deadly incident in a letter on Thursday night. Administrations stated that the attack occurred well after school hours and students had already been dismissed for the day.
“I want to assure you that at no time were any students or other staff members in danger as a result of this incident,” district Superintendent Jasen Witt said in a statement.
He went on to write that authorities were “promptly notified” and the district is fully cooperating with the investigation.
The two janitors worked at the school through a third party, officials added.
The school's secondary campus will be closed to staff and students going into Friday as police continue to investigate the incident, which is being considered as a homicide.
No other details were released.
