SOUTHGATE, Mich. (WWJ) – Fire crews are investigating the cause of a fire at a large home in Southgate on Monday.

The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. at a home on Eureka Road, near Dix, in Southfield, apparently next to the former Ray Hunter Florist and Garden Shop.

Authorities say the house was occupied at the time the blaze started, but everyone escaped without injuries, including the family's cats. It was not immediately clear how many people were inside the home at the time the fire broke out.

Crews remained on-scene for several hours, still working to determine what caused the fire.

Fire crews from Southgate, Wyandotte and Allen Park all responded to the call.
