(WWJ) A number of guests were evacuated from a Macomb Township hotel early Monday morning, due to a fire in the building.
Macomb Township firefighters were called to the Candlewood Suites Hotel on Hall Road at around 4:45 a.m., where smoke was coming from a guest room.
One guest in that room had to be rescued by firefighters, who responded to the scene to find him hanging out a second-story window.
"Upon arrival they found a male occupant at the window screaming for help, Fire Chief Bob Phillips told WWJ's Charlie Langton. "Threw a ladder up, pulled him out and down into the ambulance."
The man was taken to a hospital. His condition is unknown.
Phillips said the hotel's fire suppression system activated and controlled the fire until firefighters could get into the room and put everything out.
Guests from approximately 12 rooms were evacuated as a precaution.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
