A man fishing on a frozen Michigan lake was killed when a snowmobile crashed into his ice shanty.

The incident happened Saturday evening on Devil's Lake in Lenawee County.

Investigators with the Michigan DNR say the fisherman was declared dead at the scene while the snowmobiler suffered minor injuries.

An annual Tip-Up fishing competition and winter festival were being held at the time, with dozens of fisherman participating along with snowmobile and motorbike races along the lake.

The crash is under investigation.

WTOL reported lake ice levels were not a factor in the deadly collision.

"This was not caused by thin ice. The ice on Devils Lake is over six inches thick and covered with snow," said Michigan DNR Law Enforcement Sergeant Shane Webster.

Police would not confirm if alcohol was involved.
