DETROIT (WWJ) - It's officially tee time at Five Iron Golf's newest location in the heart of Downtown Detroit that is sure to give both golfers and non-golfers an inclusive urban golf experience unlike any other.
The urban golf brand officially opened its 24,000-square-feet of space, with over a dozen custom-built golf simulators by TrackMan Golf and high-speed cameras in every bay, on Wednesday at 6 a.m. inside Detroit's new Cambria Hotel at 600 W. Lafayette Blvd.
The Detroit golf experience is the Five Iron Golf's first presence in the city and second in Michigan, joining their Shelby Township location that opened in 2022.
"We are so thrilled to officially open our doors in Detroit, and to bring the unique Five Iron experience to downtown," Jason Sproat, general manager of Five Iron Golf Detroit said in a prepared statement. "We have something for everyone -- form lessons, to leagues, to happy hours, and private parties. Five Iron Golf Detroit is the downtown spot with a new way to play and party."
The downtown location, along with its extended hours (Monday - Thursday 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.), make the city's newest golf experience appealing to amateurs seeking a fun spot to play and pros looking to improve their swing away from the constraints of bad weather, gridlocked traffic and limited course hours.
For golfers of all levels, the Tour-level golf simulators offer nearly 200 world-renowned courses to choose from, seven days a week, with golf instructors available for private or group lessons. State-of-the art cameras are set up in each bay to capture every movement of your swing.
Golf Simulators are available to rent, with prices ranging from $45-$85/hour depending on the location and time of day.
For non-golfers, the event space offers widescreen TVs, other games such as shuffleboard, ping pong, foosball, darts and classic arcade games. With three bars to choose from, the location serves an extensive appetizer and small bites menu along with beer, signature cocktail and canned classics.
As for ambiance, Five Iron Golf has captured the unique feel of city with mood lighting, modern lounge furniture, blending neon lights and Detroit-themed murals featuring familiar places and people, like the Spirit of Detroit and Aretha Franklin, from local artists Desiree Kelly and Joey Salamon.
"With premium amenities such as bag storage and local rooms complete with showers and towel service, Five Iron Golf Detroit is the newest attraction open to all, regardless of handicap." the company said.
In celebration of its grand opening, the location is offering a special deal for its Founding Membership, which will give the first 325 members 50% off the first three months of membership, plus a complimentary premium golf lesson and custom Five Iron Golf hoodie.
Five Iron Golf Detroit is the company's 17th location overall since it was founded in New York City in 2017. Since then, the company has expanded into Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Seattle Cincinnati and now Detroit, with new venues planned for 2024.
