DETROIT (WWJ) An unknown suspect shot a five-year-old girl in the chest Halloween evening, just after she returned home from trick-or-treating, according to police.
Detroit Police said they received a call to go to Children’s Hospital of Michigan on Saturday, October 31, around 9 p.m.
According to authorities, officers learned the shooting took place at a home on Iroquois near East Warren on the city’s east side.
“At the time, she was in the backroom playing. She had just gotten finished trick-or-treating,” Deputy Chief Arnold Williams said. “And just like all kids when they get finished trick-or-treating, she was just trying to enjoy herself…and then someone fired shots senselessly into the house.”
She is in stable condition, according to Williams.
“(Her stable condition) is a blessing,” Williams said. “But it could have been much worse.”
Police did not have any further information about whether the incident was a drive-by shooting or if the suspect was traveling on foot.
If you have any information on the shooting, please give Detroit Police a call.
