LUTZ, Fla. (WWJ) - Authorities in Florida are searching for Detroit Lions cornerback Cam Sutton after he allegedly strangled a women at home near Tampa nearly two weeks ago.

Sutton, 29, is wanted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for Domestic Battery by Strangulation after he allegedly attacked a woman just before 5:00 a.m. on March 7 in Lutz, Fla., just north of Tampa.

He then fled the scene before authorities arrived and authorities haven't been able to contact him. As reported by Mlive, Sutton has not visited his home and has either disconnected or turned off his phone.

"He's been ducking us," Phil Martello, a communications officer for the sheriff's department, told MLive. "Our deputies have exhausted all leads. He's got vehicles and a home nearby and he hasn't been there. He's turned off his phone."

The sheriff's office said Sutton may be driving a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with a plate number of FL-AZ33QB.

Anyone with any information on Sutton's whereabouts has been asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200.

The Lions released at statement on Wednesday afternoon, stating:

"We became aware of the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton this morning. We will continue to monitor the situation and will not have further comment at this time."

Sutton started all 20 games for the Detroit Lions last season, including the playoffs, but struggled to live up to expectations as the team's No. 1 corner. He logged six pass deflections, one interception and allowed a passer rating of 122.0 -- the second worst ranking among NFL cornerbacks who played in more than 50% of their team's defensive snaps.

The 29-year-old has two years and $21 million in salary remaining on his contract in Detroit.
