DETROIT (WWJ) -- As temperatures dipped close to single digits, Detroit Firefighters were on the city's west side Tuesday morning fighting fires inside two vacant homes -- threatening an occupied home nearby.
The fire broke out in the first and second floors of one vacant dwelling, which then spread into the one next to it on Prairie Street, off of Livernois Avenue and West Chicago.
According to WWJ's reporter Mike Campbell said the owner of the occupied home, neighboring the vacant one engulfed in flames, was nervous and scared, but so far the house has been spared.
Detroit Fire Chief 2 John Curry said the cause of the fire is to be determined, but “cold night like this, sometimes people set fires in them to keep warm.”
No injuries were reported.
