
FLINT (WWJ) -- Following the deadly and destructive home explosion Monday night, the city of Flint activated an emergency response effort to assist those who were affected.
“This is a tragedy in our community. We must pray and wrap our arms around the families impacted. The City of Flint appreciates all of our community partners that have helped expedite our response,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said. “We ask for sensitivity and compassion during this time. Remember, these are families, someone’s loved ones with homes destroyed.”
The city is working with local community organizations, religious facilities and surrounding public safety municipalities to help with family resources and recovery efforts.
The community is being asked to use caution when entering the explosion area as it is still being assessed and secured.
United Way has set up a donation fund called the November 22 Flint Home Explosion Fund. Anyone can donate by either going to www.unitedwaygenesee.org/give or mailing it to United Way Genesee, PO Box 949 Flint, MI 48501, with note: "November 22 Flint Home Explosion Fund."
Residents affected by the explosion are encouraged to call the city of Flint Public Health Office at (810) 410-2020 and provide your name, phone number, address, and service needed. Services include family resources for shelter, food, clothing, mental health assistance, housing vouchers and other essential needs.
The city of Flint will continue to update the community regarding efforts to assist residents who were affected.
