FLINT (WWJ) — A Flint man is in custody after trying to get away from police by jumping in the Flint River Tuesday night.
Around 9:20 p.m. Michigan State Police troopers clocked the man going 74 mph in a 35 mph zone on a stolen motorcycle.
He sped away at over 100 mph when troopers tried to pull him over, but they did not give chase.
MSP officials say when the suspect was out of sight he crashed in the area of Hamilton Avenue and James P. Cole Boulevard.
The suspect got up and ran from the scene before jumping into the Flint River, according to MSP.
With the help of a State Police helicopter and a K9 unit, the man was found a short time later and taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for what officials say were serious injuries.
The nature of the man's injuries and his condition were not disclosed Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities did not say where the bike was allegedly stolen from.
There was a large police presence in the area Tuesday night as MSP troopers were assisted by six other police and fire departments.
No other injuries were reported.
