Flint man killed when garbage truck overturns, hits pole after crash with Jeep in Orion Township

ORION TWP. (WWJ) -- Authorities are investigating a deadly crash involving a teenage driver and a garbage truck in Oakland County.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, a 37-yeat-old man was killed in the crash just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, on E. Silverbell Rd. near Lapeer Rd. in Orion Twp.

Officials said a 16-year-old Oakland Township boy was pulling out of a driveway in a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he failed to yield to a Peterbilt 520 waste truck, which was headed westbound on Silverbell.

The garbage truck driver, Trent Edward Evans of Flint, swerved and the truck overturned, sliding on its side and crashing into a utility pole, according to the sheriff's office

Evans was rushed by EMS to a hospital where he died of his injuries. The teen driver was not hurt.

Authorities said both driver had their seatbelts on, and neither driver was using alcohol.

It's unclear if the teen could face charges. An investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is ongoing.
