Details surrounding the fire remain scarce, but Genesee Township Fire officials confirmed to WWJ Newsradio 950 crews were on-scene handling the fire.

Shortly before noon, Kearsley Community Schools officials on Facebook said there was an active fire at the new recreation center addition at KHS,

“First responders are on site and, following the guidance of the fire chief, all students have been evacuated to the auditorium,” a post on the district’s Facebook page said.

Officials said no injuries were sustained in the fire,

Student drivers were allowed to leave the school at 12:10 p.m. and parents were told to pick up their children at the science wing doors at 12:20 p.m., while bus riders were sent home at 12:30 p.m.
