SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) – A Florida man is facing a long list of charges for his role in the alleged kidnapping of a man outside of a Macomb County gym Monday night. Three other suspects remain on the loose Tuesday evening.

The 38-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released, is charged with carjacking and four other life felonies, as well as seven other felony counts.

The kidnapping, which is not believed to be a random act, happened around 7:15 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Lifetime Fitness on Lakeside Boulevard, near Hayes and Hall Roads.

Authorities say four armed men carjacked a 24-year-old man at gunpoint, restrained him in his own vehicle and drove away.

They allegedly tortured him, drove him to his house and went inside, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. When police officers showed up at the house, the suspects fled in the car with the victim inside.

Police gave chase until the suspects crashed the car. Sterling Heights police officers arrested the Florida man, while the three others got away. A gun was recovered at the scene of the crash.

The victim was still inside after the suspects fled. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials have not released a description of the three at-large suspects but are asking anyone who knows something about the incident to call the Shelby Township Police Department at 586-731-2121.

The suspect is facing the following charges:

• Carjacking (life felony)
• Conspiracy carjacking (life felony)
• Armed robbery (life felony)
• Conspiracy armed robbery (life felony)
• Torture (life felony)
• First-degree home invasion (20-year felony)
• First-degree conspiracy home invasion (20-year felony)• Unlawful imprisonment (15-year felony)
• Conspiracy unlawful imprisonment (15-year felony)
• Three counts of felony firearm (two-year mandatory felony)

While authorities say the alleged carjacking and torture is not believed to be random, officials have not released any information as to why the victim was targeted.
