WARREN (WWJ) -- A food pantry shipping container was firebombed over the weekend, burning through donations meant to feed over 1000 families in south Warren.

On Saturday, Warren Police reported that an unknown person broke into and firebombed a shipping container at Harvest Time Christian Fellowship near 9 Mile Rd. and Van Dyke Ave.

Video posted to Facebook by Harvest Time's Pastor Curtiss Ostosh shows firefighters sawing through a section of the shipping container to survey the damage.

Once the container was open, it was clear that the contents - enough canned goods and food items to feed 1,500 local families for a month - were completely destroyed.

WWJ's Erin Vee spoke to Pastor Ostosh, who oversees the food pantry. The pastor said that he doesn't know why anyone would want to hurt their community.

On Sunday, Ostosh offered up a prayer for the culprit, saying "Lord, we just pray that you would be with those people who have ill intent towards us."

Families in need are expected to arrive at the food pantry on Tuesday to pick up donations.

Pastor Ostosh said he's "not sure how they'll do it, but God does provide."

Harvest Time Christian Fellowship has served south Warren for 31 years.

Anyone with information regarding the fire should contact Warren PD.
