CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police are still working to determine what caused a driver to cross into approaching traffic before crashing into a parked semi truck in Clinton Township -- resulting in the driver's death -- on Wednesday morning.

The Clinton Township Police Department said officers responded to the scene of a crash around 11:46 a.m. on February 14 after a white 2016 Ford Fusion slammed into a semi-truck trailer near Groesbeck Highway, north of 15 Mile Road.

According to their preliminary investigation, authorities determined the driver behind the wheel of the Ford was traveling on northbound on Groesbeck just past 15 Mile when it appeared to cross left of center, drove across the southbound lanes and over the curb on the west side of the street.

"The vehicle continued through the parking lot of a business location into a semi-truck trailer parking area colliding with one," police said in a prepared statement.

Officers pronounced the driver of the Ford dead at the scene.

No other injuries or damage to vehicle were reported in the incident.

The department is continuing their investigation. Any witnesses to the crash or anyone having information pertinent to the crash has been asked to contact the police department at: Traffic office (586) 493-7935 or the front desk (586) 493-7802.
